England star Danny Drinkwater was attacked by a gang of at least six thugs after he tried to chat up a rival player’s girlfriend during a night out, it has been alleged.
The 29-year-old Chelsea midfielder suffered torn ankle ligaments in the fight outside Manchester’s Chinawhite club early last Sunday, and is expected to be off the pitch for at least four weeks.
He is claimed to have approached Scunthorpe United player Kgosi Ntlhe’s girlfriend.
Drinkwater has been on loan to Burnley Football Club since August, yet has made just one appearance during their Carabao Cup defeat to Sunderland last month.

Drinkwater was hurled out of the club by security before being set upon by the men, The Sun on Sunday reports.
Thugs allegedly jumped on the £35milllion footballer’s ankle as they chanted ‘break his leg’ while blood spilled ‘everywhere’.
The attack reportedly came moments after he tried to chat up girlfriend of Scunthorpe United player Kgosi Ntlhe, which initially caused a confrontation between the two footballers.
Drinkwater was initially thought to have ‘rolled on his ankle’ after being involved in a ‘non-football incident’, Sky Sports News reported.
He has previously played for Manchester United and Leicester City.
He also kicked a ball around for the England team in 2016 at The National Stadium in Wembley, London, in a friendly before the European Championship Finals.
MailOnline contacted Danny Drinkwater’s agent for comment.
