When confronted over the ISIS-inspired attacks which have killed scores in the UK, the 19-year-old stuttered: ‘I was shocked but… I just couldn’t… I didn’t know about the kids actually but.. I don’t know.’

She was challenged by the BBC’s Quentin Somerville who question her about the children killed in the 2017 Manchester Arena suicide bombing.

But the jihadi bride said it was the same as those being killed in the the war being fought between the Assad regime and ISIS militants.

Begum eventually did apologise, but again added that those living under ISIS were also being killed.

It also emerged today that Begum has called her son Jerah, in what historians have interpreted as a reference to Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah, a 7th century Islamic warlord.
